During WWII the Germans built a wall of concrete and steel, the Atlantikwall, from Norway to the Spanish border. It's purpose was to stop an invasion from England and to protect Hitler's secret weapons. It was started in 1941 but never finished due to the D-Day landings.
We drove to see what was left of this great undertaking.
It was quite a journey to walk through their concrete mazes, many of which are hidden with brush or camo netting.
The kids have been very intrigued with all the WWII stories so a trip the the Atlantikwall really made it come to life.
There were a few of the large weapons and machines left to to get a feel of how they tried to protect themselves.
The boys have a real knack of making these machines come to life.Across from the Atlantikwall, the beach was scattered with tiny sand dollars, the shell collection always has room for a few more.
