2 jours à Paris avec mon ami Nikki

May 5, 2008

Our transfers of guests worked out perfectly. Mark took Deena & Jared to the airport and picked up my good friend Nikki. Nikki and I worked together at the same salon for several years and were instant friends. She is a ball of fire and willing to try almost anything, I have great memories with her and her husband Rusty. Unfortunately Rusty lost a hard battle with colon cancer 2 years ago-everyone misses him very much.

Nikki is rock solid and I learn a million things from her everyday. Her new life of mother, father, basketball, baseball coach, dance, karate, and school chauffeur, classroom volunteer, business owner, landscape artist, carpenter, aunt, sister and friend must be taxing and exhausting, but she is full of positive things to say about life and everything in it.

Once she arrived we helped her unwind with a walk to the bakery and lunch, then I took her on a tour of the Chateau de Fontainebleau.

That night my kids could hardly wait to treat her to a dinner of Raclette.
We are very happy she is here and that her kids were willing to share her with us.

May 6, 2008 The markets are bursting with the most glorious fruits and vegetables as spring leaves us and summer tries to break through. We started out our day in Fontainebleau at the marché.
We had to tempt her with some delicious French pastries.
Once we dished ourselves a good serving of the marché we took the 11 train into Paris to show Nikki her first sights of the great city.
You gotta love what you end up with when you ask a stranger to take your picture. Thank goodness for digital-can you imagine returning home and this is your one picture of Notre Dame.
We hit all the main attractions-Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, the Tuilleries, a boat ride on the Seine and........
The Eiffel Tower.

We waited to to see the Tower until the sun was setting so we could catch the glow of the great structure.
At 10:00 it starts to sparkle with additional lights flashing-it was something to see.

We were on top just as the sun was going down.
Nikki is full of energy and even after her long flight and little sleep she was a treat to be with all day.

Back into Paris for another day of thrill and adventure. The main attraction was the Louvre.
We spent hours strolling through the great halls of beautiful art trying to read the descriptions in French.
This is one of my favorites.

Élisabeth-Louise Vigée-Le Brun is my favorite woman artist. She is the most famous woman painter from the 18th century. Most of her paintings are portraits and are very soft and most of them seem content. She painted many portraits of women, a favorite of Marie Antoinette.

I love to see Paris through others eyes, what sights a first timer wants to take home-these are a few of Nikk's picks.

When we arrived home that night, they boys were busy at work on their own piece of art. The jardin behind the house is full of mystery and adventure.
