It was exciting and a challenge to have Thanksgiving in France. They don't have all the things we are use to finding at Albertsons or Smiths for this big feast, so we had to hunt for a few of them. The biggest puzzle was trying to figure out how to cook everything in our "easy bake ovens". Neither Janet or I have very big ovens, and with Janet's full of Turkeys (which had to be ordered several weeks ahead) that left mine to do the rest. Somehow we managed and with the old trick of wrapping food in towels we even got it all there warm. We did do a pretty good job getting all the traditional foods to the table. We even had cranberries and fresh sage (thanks to my neighbor) for the stuffing.
Ralph whipped all the cream by hand. We don't have an electric mixer, but we do own a hand mixer, it took some time and some patience but we had whipped cream that night.
Aren't they beautiful, the stars of the show!
Taylor had to drive about an hour round trip to pick up the birds.
We put together quite the group for the feast. It was fun to be with family and friends - old and new. We have a lot to be thankful for this year, and we were happy to have this day to reflect upon all those who bless our lives.
The chefs- Lisa, Janean, Hillary, Janet, Tracy and me!
We put together a dessert table fit for kings.
My mom and I made banana cream pies, the trick was, we realized after we started, no pie tins. We used a lid to a Pyrex dish, and an actual Pyrex dish. They may not have the same shape as all your pies, but they were still delicious! Tracy even made us pumpkin pie with canned pumpkin purchased at the British bookstore, however it was not on sale here, six euros a can.
We've seen Mark on a car so Janet on a chair trying to capture the perfect photo isn't too crazy!
If you want a good review just invite 2 hungry American missionaries to an American celebration with lots of food-definitely a thumbs up!
